OUR MINISTER SEARCH STORY

In a recent sermon our brother Jamie Morris admonished the church to tell others of the things God has done for us. To "be ready to tell your story when somebody asks 'what has God ever done for you?'"

Well this is a story about what God has done for us.

OUR MINISTER SEARCH STORY

On Sunday, May 28th, our congregation was saddened to receive the sudden resignation of our much beloved minister, Chet Rutledge, due to family concerns.  Chet addressed the congregation with a beautiful and heartfelt explanation of this sudden departure, after which the church prayed together for wisdom and trust in God in the days ahead, for the Rutledges and for the church in Chico. After tearful good-byes, and loading a moving van, the Rutledge family left for Arkansas. We will greatly miss Chet, Dana and Asa and will be praying for God's guidance and provision in their future endeavors.

Due to the emergent circumstances a minister search was begun, with a job announcement and position description written and posted across several search outlets. The position description included these qualifications and character qualities:

  • Loves God, knows the Word, and demonstrates that knowledge through an active personal faith.
  • Loves people and longs for their salvation and readily shares his life and faith with others.
  • Understands the biblical example of leadership through humility and service.
  • Works well with others and encourages fellow believers in their faith.
  • Strives for honesty and integrity in his ministry and personal life and desires a Bible-based unity in Christ for the Lord’s church.

We were in the midst of our search for a Spirit-filled man who was willing and able to serve as minister to the Chico Church of Christ.

This interim was not a time of languish however, rather it has been a thriving experience of community in the church thanks to a handful of members who stepped up to teach and lead. Learning from these men has been a wonderfully encouraging and informing time and we want to make our appreciation plain: those men who preached and taught classes during this time are Buzz Beattie, Jamie Morris, Bill Such, Eric Smith, Steve Crane, Mike Adams, Mike Dunbar, Lyle Thompson
