Chet Rutledge

Minister

Thank you for visiting the Chico Church of Christ website! It’s important to know about a church and its leaders. So, allow me to introduce myself in hopes that your decision about actually visiting here may become a bit more comfortable.

My name is Chet Rutledge. I was born in 1977 and raised in the small, agricultural community of Newport, AR. It wasn’t long before I went from working in the rice/soy bean fields of Arkansas to working as an audio/visual technician on the properties of Universal Studios located in Orlando, FL. My employment as a technician eventually led me to New Orleans, LA, where I continued to learn about myself, great food, and a little bit of trouble.

I suppose I could tell you about all of the problems I’ve encountered over the years, particularly alcoholism and depression; and I also suppose that I could tell you how God, through his son Jesus, played an important role in my changing. However, I would like to remind you that you’re reading the bio of a minister on a church’s website. Thus, it would be an understatement to say God simply changed my life. It would be better to say that God gave me a new life.

In regards to faith and religion, my moments of skepticism, cynicism, and a true hunger for intellectual stimulation led me to pursue a life in academics. I hold a BA in Ministry from Harding University and a MA in Theology from Harding School of Theology in Memphis, TN. During the course of my academic journey, I met and married my beautiful wife Dana. By the grace of God, Dana and I now have a beautiful son, Asa White Rutledge, who was born in December of 2014!

I could go on and on about my own interests (e.g., music, songwriting, film, performance art, etc.), but everyone has interests. The one interest that I hope you and I may share is learning about God and Jesus Christ. If that may be the case, come and visit us!

It is my position at the Chico Church of Christ to help our community fully engage in the challenging, frustrating, enlightening, and exhilarating aspects of the Christian faith through ministry and study. Hopefully, this bio gives you a better idea about the church minister, and it helps you feel more comfortable about attending. Once again, thank you for taking the time to explore our congregation! Of course, if you have any other questions you can email us at church@chicocofc.org.

We hope to see you soon!
